The Autism Risk With Stress And Pregnancy

>> Wednesday, December 31, 2014

By Katrina Kaleesy

One consideration for thinking about the relation between stress and pregnancy is the matter of stress in pregnancy and autism. As we've emphasized elsewhere, stressing about stress is a counter-productive cycle that needs to be avoided. However, knowledge is valuable.

Expecting mothers - and their partners - should be aware of the research giving rise to widespread conclusions that pregnancy stress presents dangers to unborn children, including risks of autism. Again, though, don't stress about stress; keep the big picture in mind.

First, right now the evidence is derived from the study of mice. Mice studies have been an important contributor to understanding human disease. However, it would be a mistake to automatically assume that any finding among mice automatically and immediately translates into human experience.

Another qualification to keep in mind is the always delicate issue of relevant proportionality. For instance, pumping mice full of some toxin in volumes utterly disproportionate to usual human practices surely does still provide valuable scientific insights. Not among those insights though would be any predictive value for assessing the relevance to the characteristically different human behavior.

This is important to remember when we observe that the researchers characterize the stress imposed on the mice as mild. This term though reveals nothing precise about the stress level of the mice. Nor does it reveal whether such findings do (or don't) translate to human experience. The resulting knowledge gap should not be filled with baseless assumptions fueled by our worst fears.

Bearing in mind such qualifications, we can observe the significance of research findings to the effect that the placenta of pregnant mice transmits biochemical effects of stress to the fetus. The essential element involved appears to be an enzyme called OGT. The relevant research indicates that OGT is what's inhibited in the placenta of mice who are subjected to what researchers describe as mild stress.

It is valuable to observe that this mouse stress was generated through exposure to both unfamiliar noises and to the scent of foxes. This author remains unclear as to why - since we know that scent reaction can be wired into the evolved psychology through natural selection - the stress caused by exposure to threat of a natural predator should be considered mild.

In any event, despite this serious flaw in the presentation of the research findings, it does appear clear that at some level of stress, mice do experience significantly reduced OGT levels. These reductions trigger alternations of over 370 of the mice's brain genes.

The neurons which were altered are critically important to a number of vital brain activities in fetus development. These include regulation of energy use, protein development and nerve cell connections. This research does seem to strongly indicate that OGT helps protect development of the fetal brain.

An important difference between male and female fetuses comes into play, here. There is a naturally lower OGT level in male fetuses. Consequently, whatever the level of stress sufficient to trigger reduced OGT, the affect will be felt sooner and more drastically in the development of boys. Such conjecture would be supported by the documented fact of higher autism and schizophrenia occurrence among males.

As noted at the start, this kind of information is valuable for expecting mothers and their partners. It should though be empowering, not a source of increased stress. The basic rule remains that it is your job to take proactive measures reducing pregnancy stress. See our suggestions for solutions that work .

The Greater Rates Of Autism Children Face These Days Is Puzzling

By Allan Stanforth

The higher rates of autism children face these days is puzzling to doctors and scientists. The rate of this condition has gone up substantially during the last few decades, and the cause in this increase has not been recognized yet. There are lots of theories that have been spoken or discussed but there is no concrete proof to prove any of these possibilities. Vaccinations, environmental pollution, difficulties from pregnancy, exposure to particular substances, and many other possible causes have been theorized.

The U . S . Government, many doctors, and the vaccine producers insist that vaccines which are given to kids are safe and do not cause autism. Several parents and some physicians believe otherwise though, specifically in cases where the kid was developing normally until a vaccine was presented and then autism symptoms were first discovered by the guardian and medical doctor.

Polluting the environment has also been charged for the larger rates of autism children experience these days. Several scientists believe that exposure to environmental pollution or other unsafe compounds causes the difficulties that are seen with autism. These compounds include mercury from eating fish, pesticides that have applied for the food chain, additives and preservative chemicals that are commonly added to foods, and other forms of toxic compounds. The issue with this theory is that lots of kids have been exposed to these compounds in the womb and were not autistic.

Medical imaging tests do not normally reveal any brain damage or abnormal brain activity in autistic kids. This has led several professionals to take into consideration that the problem may be with the neurotransmitters in the brain that are accountable for brain action. This is also only a theory though, and studies have not been performed to determine whether this theory is right or just a false presumption.

There have been therapy discoveries that provide parents hope but there's still no cure in sight. It's possible that this problem will be unlocked by medical science at some point but until then treatment and therapy is essential.

Reasons for Autism Are Not Yet Clear

>> Tuesday, September 24, 2013

By Chloe Gib

Autism Orange County and in other places is a condition people are more familiar with than they were ten years ago. As more parents become aware of what is affecting their children, it is extensively researched and therapies are developed for professionals to provide. There are also therapeutic practices that can be performed by the parent at home to benefit the child.

This condition that strikes within the first three years of life is formally known as autistic spectral disorder. The pervasive developmental condition infiltrates all aspects of the personality. Normal social skills and communicative abilities are significantly affected.

The person observing a child stricken by this condition sees that he is noticeably isolated. He does not connect with either children or grown-ups. He may be performing unusual ritualistic behavior constantly. Or he may be sitting quietly, avoiding eye contact with anyone. He would look away if you spoke to him in most cases.

The research today attributes the condition to a chemistry imbalance in the brain. The precise cause of the unusual behavior is not understood as yet. The body of research posits that there is more than one single factor that is at the root of the condition. It does not seem to be regional because in Los Angeles autism strikes no more often than in other California cities. In San Diego autism gives rise to the same symptoms.

Traits that run in families seem to correlate with the occurrence of the condition. For example, there are more family members of autistic children with speech and language disorders than occur in the general population. Therefore, it seems to point in the direction of a genetic factor being at the root of the disorder. Neurological and chromosomal abnormalities indicate the same thing.

Other potential causes being explored are diet and change in the digestive system. It is found that these children do not absorb and make use of vitamins and minerals in a normal way. Vaccines are also suspected. Parents who believe they are to blame refuse to have their children protected against some very serious diseases. In the opinion of health care experts, this is a dangerous risk to take.

Children with autism Orange County are no longer considered hopelessly untreatable. While they used to be placed in institutions, they now receive specific types of behavior therapy that has shown some success. Most are able to live at home with the family. Of course, some cases are more disabling than others.

It seems likely if the puzzle isn't properly dealt with soon, within the next 10 to fifteen years the globe may be liable for exactly what could possibly be an entire race of adults who are not up to function by themselves. Take a min to think of what would be an enormous drain on the welfare system.

It's hard to envision a disabled individual has any connection to humankind's advancement.

A blind man, a person with autism, or attention shortage disorder, no method these individuals might have anything to do with advancement. Normally your initial idea would probably be devolution, however if we closely examine exactly what we find out about exactly what we don't actually know, we would be impressed by the possibilities.

It does not take a genius to identify that the unexplained cannot be described because we haven't determined how to use our brain's full capacity. This implies that as far as we understand anything is possible.

If a guy is born blind he cannot value sight because he never ever had it. His absence of sight becomes a problem in his mind due to the fact that people tell him he is disabled since he can't see.

Due to the fact that the guy has no sense of sight his senses of hearing and touch are far above average, so he can hear and feel things like music astoundingly better than the typical human. This could offer the guy a natural capability to play a musical instrument far much better than his human counterparts without direction.

This produces the question, is this guy turned off? According to culture he is, however Webster's dictionary calls him a genius. We have a nasty habit of negatively designating things we don't understand, so similar arguments could be used those identified disabled since of ADD, or Autism.

Are these labels an item our lack of knowledge? Are these individuals disabled, or are they precursors to our evolution?

Autism has actually been around longer than most people realize, twenty years ago it was called psychological retardation.

The Right Way To Show Love When There's Autism In Youngsters

>> Friday, May 18, 2012

By Neva Pujol

One of the primary stuff that specialists believe is that autism in youngsters prevents the kid from showing any real love. They also believe that it prevents the child from receiving any love and devotion. Usually if you have a look at a child with autism then you're going to feel that this is definitely true. But the one thing you must realize is that autistic children need to be handled diversely than your average person so you need to find out the thing that makes your kids tick so that you can show devotion.

Nearly all guardians would think that the best way to show love to any kid would be to touch them and show them devotion physically. Given that autistic youngsters don't like to be amazed, you should obviously expect the kid to get very upset when they get touched unexpectedly. So this possibly isn't going to be the ideal way to show affection to a child with autism. But it is not impossible and I'd like to show you how to do it now.

The main thing you should realize when you touch your autistic kid is that you have to do it slowly. So you may want to start out by very gently touching your kid's hand or you could very lightly put your hand on your autistic kid's shoulder. And if you would like to give your kids a hug you'll need to do so very gently by gradually bringing yourself into the position where you will be able to hug your child.

Just remember that everything must be very gentle and you must take your time while you are building up to embracing a kid with autism. If you immediately try and give them a good big hug you may expect your little one to react very negatively and this will be a really disturbing situation in an autistic kid's life. It may not work properly at first but if you keep doing and you notice what your kids is comfortable with then you should be able to give your child a hug whenever you want.

So it's undoubtedly possible to show devotion when there's autism in children. You just need to use a way of doing this that is not going to suddenly scare or excite the autistic youngster.
